things that have been [re]affirmed this week
- anything north of 80F is too hot to function
- I am not as mature or responsible as I fancy myself to be.
- I have enough apparel to clothe a small nation (e.g. Vatican City)
- laziness spawns more laziness
7/14/11: A good @#$%ing day for music
- Spotify launched in the U.S., and I bought myself a subscription
- bought myself, Breanne, and Marissa wristbands for MFNW + Iron & Wine
- promptly began compiling my tentative personalized sched
- won tickets to Cults (that was yesterday, but whatever). I happened to already have tickets, but now I get to bring more friends!
- The Black Keys announced a new album, again produced by Danger Mouse
- sent in an entry to Portland Monthly for Twin Shadow tickets
Weekending in Canada
- saw a minivan with a Shittle Flounders sticker on the back so Jojo and I made B hold up my No Pity scarf in the window as we passed them while I cackled with amusement.
- had the most intensive questioning at the border to date. “Ma’am is this your vehicle?” “… YES”
- excited to take my friends around tomorrow; Jojo has never been here and B hasn’t been since she was 5 so we’re gonna go see the Olympic cauldron, walk around downtown (eat some Japadog, Beard Papa, poutine, etc.), explore Stanley Park, and whatever else.
- apparently the cast of Glee is in Van. I’ll keep my eyes peeled, as I wouldn’t mind running into Puck.
- NEKO CASE / THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS TOMORROW NIGHT AT STANLEY PARK
- driving back to PDX on Sunday for the Timbers v. Sounders match. Then back to the Eug for school. I’m going to be dead exhausted.
- in an unrelated note, I also was blessed with an Adele ticket yesterday thanks to my ever reliable B. I say blessed cause she sold out in 5 minutes.
list #24: concert wishlist
1. The Knife - watch “Heartbeats” live
W.W.K.W. (what will Karin wear?)
2. Bloc Party - watch “Banquet” live
they’re finally coming off of hiatus at the end of this year!
3. No Doubt - watch “Sunday Morning” live
I might die before they release another album/I have a great need to see Adrian drum in his man-thong
4. Adele - watch “Rolling in the Deep” live
get well soon, girl!
5. Laura Marling - watch “Ghosts” live
pre-fame Marcus Mumford on drums hah
6. RAC - watch “Everything You Wanted (RAC Mix)” live
Why hasn’t this happened yet? André lives in my city for christ sakes.**
7. Cults - watch “You Know What I Mean” live
I’M SEEING THEM THIS SUMMER NO MATTER WHAT IDEC
8. Rocky Votolato - watch “Portland Is Leaving” live
I’m unsure how this gentleman has managed to evade me for so long. He also lives in my neck of the woods. I’ve always wanted to host one of his living room shows, but I’ve never had a proper place to do it at.
**In the time since I originally penned this, a friend invited to me to the RAC warehouse party this weekend. Stoked. Wearing my romper.
list #23: good week
for many superficial as fuck reasons.
- ordered this dress online and automatically received a complimentary year long subscription to Teen Vogue, which I think is a pretty decent mag in its own right.
- downloaded a digital copy of Born This Way for 99¢ (that’s really all it’s worth) and received a complimentary year long Amazon Cloud Drive 20 GB storage plan. By the way, the 5 GB plan is free - which is more space for free than Dropbox.
- bought a pair of Dolce Vita (for Target) wedges and my very first romper.
- scored two free tickets to Antiques Roadshow, so Marissa’s gonna visit; we will enjoy some lovely boxed wine and then go kick it with Eugene’s classiest old people. If you’re not in the know about retired people programming, Antiques Roadshow is on PBS and it’s exactly what it sounds like. People bring ugly shit from their attic to be appraised, and it makes for a hilarious time. I used to watch this gem all the time when I was a child.
- I have exactly no coursework, save for reading.
- made tentative plans to pick this girl up from Sea-Tac in June w/my good friends with whom I haven’t had any solid bonding time with lately. I can’t wait for her triumphant return stateside.
- going to Seattle with my mom so we can what else? EAT. Best part is I won’t even have to pay for anything. It’ll be an Asian food tour as she wants to hit up Din Tai Fung for their world-renowned xiao long bao (which are some of my favorite dumplings!) and imma convince her to to make a stop at Jollibee.
list #22: things that irk me part 3
1. When you bite into an onion ring and your teeth pull out the entire onion from the breading.
2. Blindly groping for something in your purse/bag and having your hand come into contact with everything else but the thing you need.
3. a) body awake, mind tired
b) body tired, mind awake
4. When either someone else or myself is conditioned to associate two things with each other when in reality they have to connection whatsoever. Especially when it’s a negative association that leads you to not discovering how awesome something actually is for a long time because of your previous aversion to it.
5. Trying to stick saran wrap on certain surfaces to no avail. Also, when one part of the saran wrap has affixed itself to itself.
6. When you share food and your friend hands you back your utensil that they just removed from their mouth and there’s still streaks/deposits of food on it (spoons are highly susceptible to this).
7. Massive plug-ins that take up all the room in the outlet, thus prohibiting anything else from being able to be plugged in. Also: trying to plug in a three-pronged plug-in into a socket that doesn’t have the third prong (what is that prong even for?!)
8. Brand new things that are made to look like old things.
9. When you’re in line and the person behind you is all up in your grill. So you try to scoot forward as much as you can to distance yourself, but now you’re doing the same thing to the person in front of you. Furthermore, the person behind you takes advantage of this and scoots up too, thus rendering your efforts fruitless. Bitch, please. Standing 3 inches away from my business does nothing to speed up the line.
10. Watching episodes out of order in a T.V. series where the plot line actually has to be followed in order for you to understand anything.
previous installments: part one / part two
